Panthalus is one of the most difficult bosses to face in the Palworld 1.0 update. It has the abilities of a Legendary Ocean King with its strong Water moves, large health bar, and other deadly skills. In this guide, we’ll tell you how to unlock the Panthalus quest, collect the Echobones, summon the boss, prepare for the battle, defeat it, and even capture Panthalus for your collection.
How to Find Panthalus
After completing the mission called The Calamity, you will be able to accept the Panthalus main quest. In order to do so, go to Azure Covenant Tower and talk to Auri, located near the cliffs just outside of the tower. After talking to Auri, the Panthalus quest starts automatically. The next step you need to take is to get four Echobones.
Finding the Echobones

To get the Marine Echobone, go to the Fast Travel Point known as Grassy Behemoth Hills and move west until you see a giant skeleton. Then, climb to the skull of the skeleton and interact with the glowing object to get the Echobone.

Silent Echobone can be obtained near the Mossanda Forest Fast Travel Point. Find a giant skeleton again and find a glowing object behind its bones. It is located inside the bones, so use interaction to get the Echobone.

To get Seafoam Echobone, move east from the entrance of Eternal Pyre Tower. Again, you will find a giant skeleton, and you need to go inside its skull, where you will see a glowing object waiting for your interaction.

Tidewind Echobone can be found near the Fast Travel Point called Land of Absolute Zero. Again, you will find a giant skeleton near the Fast Travel Point and look next to the skull of the skeleton for a glowing object.
Summoning Panthalus
After you have collected all four Echobones, return to any of the camps and craft the Echoing Flute using the workbench, which can also include the primitive workbench. After crafting the Echoing Flute, travel to Deserted Islet, located on the west side of No Man’s Trail fast travel point. Once there, talk to the Ancient Civilisation Researcher and give him the Echoing Flute. Afterwards, interact with the blue stone to summon Panthalus.
Boss Fight Preparation

Panthalus is one of the toughest bosses in the Palworld 1.0 update, so don’t expect an easy fight. Panthalus should only be attacked when you reach late stages of the game with your Pals being high-level and with decent gear.
Though it can be beaten at around Level 76, having a higher level and better gear will make the battle much easier. Make sure that you have achieved level 71 before fighting Panthalus in battle. This encounter will be much simpler if you have all the appropriate preparation in terms of gear and high-level Pals.
Best Pals
For this battle, the best Pals that you may use include Shadowbeak and Azurmane (Azerain). The reason for this is that these two can attack Panthalus while it’s flying above water. Jetragon is another good choice. Before going to battle, check that your Pals are upgraded and have their best abilities.
Since Panthalus is a Water-type Pal, Electric-type Pals are the best choice because they’ll deal extra damage. Flying Pals are also highly recommended, as they can keep attacking while the boss stays over the water. Good options include Shadowbeak, Jetragon, Beakon, and Helzephyr Lux.
You should also equip your Pals with some important Passive Skills to increase their power in the fight. Additionally, you should take one of your best weapons like the Rocket Launcher to deal heavy damage and stagger the boss whenever you get the chance.
Best Weapons
Before the battle, be sure to prepare for it with either a Legendary Multi-Guided Rocket Launcher or a Plasma Cannon if you own one. The rocket launcher would be more advantageous since it can deliver a very large amount of damage and also allows you to fight Panthalus from a distance. If you’re riding a Flying Pal, you can stay mobile while continuously firing rockets, making the fight much easier.
Best Gears
Before fighting Panthalus, make sure to equip the Ancient Armour, Ancient Helm, and Ancient Shield. These items will provide you with some of the best defence that you can have for your current level, thus ensuring that you survive Panthalus’s strong Water-type moves. The extra defence also makes it easier to stay alive while moving between the island and the surrounding water during the fight.
How to Defeat Panthalus

First, your main objective will be to survive and do constant damage. Make sure that you stay in the middle part of the arena and move around, evading the attacks of the boss. As Panthalus spends quite a lot of time in the air, Flying Pals will become very useful since they will allow you to fight effectively while evading the boss’s attacks and shooting weapons.
The boss’s weak spot is the blue crystal on its forehead. The crystal is hard to hit from afar, but close shots will deal great damage. Use your strongest weapons whenever possible. Mechanical Bow can help you to hit the weak point, while Rocket Launcher and Multi-Guided Missile Launcher can deal significant damage and even stagger the boss, thus providing more time for you to attack.
When Panthalus lands in the middle part of the arena, switch to Azurmane or any other strong Electric-type Pal, as the attacks will deal great damage to the boss.

Dodging is just as important as attacking. As soon as Panthalus makes a large wave, dodge it by moving aside or by jumping above it using Double Jump or Triple Jump Boots. Triple Jump Boots are especially helpful because they give you extra height and make avoiding attacks much easier. It is possible to use Dash Boots, but the advantage of additional jump height would help you more.
During the boss fight, Panthalus makes some deadly attacks, some of which may even KO you if you do not watch carefully. Pay attention to the red alert telling you about the approaching massive wave. As soon as you see it, use the wind currents near you to jump over the wave. This is very necessary to survive during the later phases of the boss fight.
Keep your attention on staying alive; attack the blue crystal when there is an opportunity, let your flying Pals make steady damage to the boss and use your best attacks when Panthalus is within striking distance. Eventually, you will defeat Panthalus.
How to Catch Panthalus
Unlike other bosses in Palworld, Panthalus can actually be captured. Just keep fighting until the Pal has only 1 HP left, and then just launch any Pal Sphere at it. At that point, the capture is guaranteed, so you don’t need to worry about using a stronger sphere. Unlike most Pals in Palworld, you can’t breed Panthalus by pairing it with a different Pal. The only way to hatch another Panthalus is by placing two Panthalus together in a Breeding Farm.
How to Ride Panthalus
When you have captured Panthalus, you can use it as a Flying Pal. One special feature of this creature is that you don’t have to make a saddle for it to start riding. Do note that you cannot assign more than one Panthalus to your base at a time. While it is in the base, it will roam around in the air and attack all nearby enemies.
