You can unlock the beehive after you reach tier 3 of the Bronze Pit Bonfire. Under this, you can unlock the Premium Breeding skill in your Knowledge and Tech tree, which helps unlock the beehive. You will require Plank Plank ×40, Thin Rope ×5, Thatch ×20, and Wooden Strip ×40 to craft one beehive. After placing the beehive in your base, you also require the Brewing Station. Under this, you can unlock the recipe for Bee-drawing Syrup.

You require 1x of each fruit; Papaya, Banana, Guava, and Pineapple to craft one Bee Drawing Syrup. You need to craft 5 Bee drawing syrup to attract one bee to your hive. So you have to craft several bottles of this syrup to fill your hive with bees. Once the hive is full, you have to wait for a few days to start farming honey. Bees also help in pollination of your crops, so having them around your base is essential
