Why Jean is Underrated and How to Build Her in Genshin Impact

Jean is one of the standard banner 5 stars who are often overlooked or looked down upon due to her inability to go toe to toe with meta DPS units. The reason why she’s considered a DPS in the first place is that she is one. That said, her role is divided equally between a DPS and a healer.

What Makes Jean So Good

Jean’s elemental burst does burst healing for the entire party- an ability only limited to dedicated healers in the game like Barbara– her little sister. Jean’s healing can bring back your entire party from the brink of death and the best part is you can still use her as a reliable DPS due to her high scaling.

Both her burst and skill have high Anemo DMG scaling with her E skill being one of the highest single-hit DPS when it comes to E-skill damage numbers.

The best thing about her is that she serves multiple roles exceptionally well and this is helped by her Anemo vision. Her elemental healing burst also lasts a couple of seconds on the field to get some more healing and swirls in. She can be built as a healer, a main DPS or even a sub DPS.

How To Build Jean

Fully investing in her kit gets you a sweet balance of all 3 of her roles. Since her healing and damage scales off of ATK, building her to have the maximum of it is the safest and easiest option.

For her healer build, apart from her ATK, you’ll also want to focus on her ER and maybe even give her a Healing Circlet provided she has good sub-stats on it.

For a burst DPS build, you can just level up her E and Q talents and give her an Anemo DMG goblet. As the main DPS, you can keep using the Anemo DPS goblet or even switch to a Physical DMG goblet as per your needs and preferences.

Artifacts

Any artifact set that boosts her Normal Attacks (NA) is great for a main DPS Jean build. If you’re willing to commit to her Physical DMG potential, then your best bet is some that give you a bonus of Phys DMG like Bloodstained Chivalry or Pale Flame. Players usually just slap on their best Gladiator set to her kit and she shines even in that.

If you instead want her as an Anemo sub-dps, the Viridescent Venerer is her best-in-slot. In this build, she needs some EM- followed by ATK, and ER.

For a healer Jean build, both the Maiden’s Beloved and Ocean-Hued Clam are good options. The Ocean-Hued Clam has the additional bonus DMG you get from its bubble once you cast your burst. However, if healing is your only demand, then the Maiden’s can perform better. For a healer build, all you will need is ATK and ER. You can also use a Healing Bonus Circlet provided it has better sub-stats or your other stats are fulfilled.

Weapons

Her best-in-slot weapon for a healer jean is any that gives her bonus ER. Personally, we recommend Favonius Sword as it not only is a great ER buffer but it also suits Jean’s office aesthetic. Among the 5 stars, Skyward Blade is her best-in-slot for this build.

As for her DPS build- all DPS swords work for her provided they don’t have specific character-centric or elemental mechanisms. Swords like The Black Sword, Blackcliff or even Prototype Rancour are all good 4-star options. Among 5-stars, the Jade Cutter and Mistsplitter come to mind.

Jean’s team comps are highly flexible to the point you can just snap her onto one of your existing teams with no hassle. With the release of Dendro and all the hype around EM, players can also build a joke but very fun EM Jean build for the famous Sunfire Duo with Bennett.
