With the help of the Sunkern Leaf, you will be able to use the TM Machines around Paldea and teach your Pokemon some new moves. Before that, you will need to have unlocked a TM recipe that requires Sunkern Leaf.
To find the Pokemon Sunkern, you will need to complete the lighthouse section of the tutorial. This Pokemon is actually quite easy to find, and you can do it pretty early in the game. Make your way to the small town called Los Platos, and you will be able to see a lot of Sunkerns.
Normally, they will be spawning near flowers, so look for some flowers if you cannot spot the Pokemon. They are rather small and you might pass them easily without noticing. Note that the spawn rates decrease when it is raining, as the Sunkern prefers sunlight.
They will not run away when you approach them, so you can battle them upfront. Once you have defeated it, you will get upto three Sunkern Leaves. You can also get Sunkern Leaf from Sunflora, but this is in the late game.
