During character creation, you can customize your Guardian initially. They will also appear during the tutorial to help you out, and during various cutscenes throughout the game. But you cannot fight them or engage with them. They usually appear in your dream after you interact with the Parasite and use its Illithid abilities. The more you interact with the Parasite, the higher your chances of encountering a Guardian. The only time you can find a Guardian is when you sleep. They usually enter your dreams and tell you bits about Baldur’s Gate 3 lore.
