There are four difficulties that you can select, but the names are not that helpful in figuring out which setting will give you the least or the most amount of pain. Below are the difficulties that you can select.

Merciful
This setting is what is considered to be an easy mode for the game, but is still quite brutal, especially for new players. Standard

Ruthless
This will be the Hard Mode of Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate, and enemies will get extra health just to make your life more difficult. Though a 25% increase in enemy health will not look like much, it will require a couple more hits to bring them down.
Legendary
As the name suggests, veteran players would love to use this mode. Everything gets way harder here, with enemies taking longer to die and the Galactic elements in disarray. Also, your construction and research speeds will take a hit, making it harder for you to advance quickly.
Grand Master
This is a secret mode that can be toggled on and off when needed, no matter which difficulty you have chosen. This is specially tailored for players who are risk-takers, as it disables manual saving. In this mode, there is only one autosave slot which will cram your entire gameplay in it, making any choice in the game a permanent one.
What Difficulty to Choose
