Thick Leather can be quite challenging to obtain in V Rising, and it ends up becoming an obstacle in the early game. A few resources that are necessary during the early game are Waterskins, Cloth, and armour like the Merciless Hollowfang set. However, the game encounters a wall, forcing players to seek a better type of leather. However, it is relatively easy to overcome this wall once you have the necessary prerequisites and the correct approach.
How to Obtain Thick Leather in V Rising?
It can be difficult to get Thick Leather in V Rising, as you need a few prerequisites before crafting it. Animals don’t drop this resource, so obtaining one isn’t a simple process. You need to have the tannery unlocked to process any kind of animal hide into various types of leather, such as Thick Leather.
Unlocking the Tannery
You must have a tannery before you can craft leather. You have to defeat the second V Blood Boss, Keely the Frost Archer, who is a Level 20 archer who attacks you with frost arrows.
The location of this boss is near the Bandit Trapper Camp in the eastern Farbane Woods. Go to your blood altar and activate tracking for Keely to locate this boss on the map. After you have located her and defeated Keely, return to your vampire castle, and you’ll have brand new blueprints for the tannery. Navigate over to the Refinement section of the menu to pull up the building instructions for the Tannery.
You will need these resources to build the Tannery:
- 160x Animal Hide
- 8x Plank
Keely the Frost Archer will also give you more recipes, such:
- Leather
- Traveller’s Wrap
- Empty Waterskin (You can use this to fill with water, use potions and care for your horse.)
Crafting Leather
Once you’ve built a Tannery in V Rising, you’ll finally be able to start producing Leather. The conversion rate is 16 Animal Hides for just 1 piece of Leather, so it’s only worth it if you’ve got a steady supply of hides coming in. And you’ll want a lot—Leather is used all over the game.
A good idea to begin with is to make a few Tanneries. That way, you can work faster and avoid bottlenecks when you are in a rush to mobilise. While you can also ramp up production by placing your Tannery in a well-supplied room, sometimes it is just easier to drop a couple more of those and craft.
Leather is a big part of your journey. You’ll be using it to level up your Castle Heart, craft various sets of armour, make Traveler’s Wraps (which give you sun protection), and even craft Merciless Copper weapons.
Crafting Thick Leather
Later in the game, you’ll also discover Thick Leather, a higher stage material used to craft upper-level equipment and items. Instead of normal Animal Hide, Thick Leather requires Thick Hide—you’ll require 4 per item.
You can get Thick Hide off more difficult-to-harvest wild creatures like bears and wolves in the Hallowed Mountains, or sometimes in the Dunley Farmlands. To unlock the ability to craft Thick Leather, you’ll have to track down and defeat Frostmaw the Mountain Terror, a V Blood boss lurking in the Hallowed Mountains.
Uses of Thick Leather in V Rising
Thick Leather can be used for several recipes in V Rising, such as:
- Crafting better armour than what can be prepared with ordinary leather.
- A vampire horse saddle
- Mountain Peak Bag.
The recipe for the latter can be obtained by defeating the V Blood Boss Frostmaw the Mountain Terror.
