Up to His Neck is one of the side quests in Gothic 1 Remake, where the player has to investigate the missing case of a person called Bran. As the quest progresses from the straightforward assignment given by the Rice Lord, it turns into a small mystery case involving the finding of clues and the investigation of people around. This guide will tell you about every step of the quest and show you how to earn the rewards.
Up to His Neck Quest
In order to unlock the quest Up to His Neck, you should have completed another quest – A Few Drops Too Much. Then, go to the Rice Lord and ask him about his other job. The quest will be started, and the Rice Lord will mention that he needs to find Bran. Thus, your task now is to find Bran and keep the quest.
Finding Bran
There is only one person who knows where Bran is located, and this person is found in the rice fields. You should talk to one of the farmers named Malon, who is working around the Rice Lord. Be polite while talking to Malon, and then you will be able to know Bran’s location and come to the tavern where he is waiting for you.
It is possible that Bran has already been found in the flooded basement below the New Camp tavern. In order to get to him, you should swim in the flooded basement after diving into the water. You need to follow the passageway until you come across a staircase, and there you should see the body of Bran. Remember to loot the body because it will contain some valuable items, one of which will be the note from Jacko, which you will need later during the quest.
After leaving the place where Bran’s body was, make sure to open Silas’ chest, where you will find Bran’s Axe, which will serve as evidence against Silas and Bran’s murder. Don’t forget to take it with you.
Then you need to swim out of the flooded basement and enter the tavern via its main entrance. Talk to Silas and exhaust all his dialogue options in order to know more about it. After that, talk to the Rice Lord and tell him about Bran. If you have Bran’s Axe as evidence, he will reward you with 50 Ore Nuggets and 300 XP.
