You can get flax fibers early in the game. Redwood Forest has an abundance of flax bushes, and you can quickly identify them if they bear blue flowers. All you have to do is walk up to the bush and interact with them to collect common flax fibers. While collecting flax fibers, you will also get a chance to gather flaxseeds. Though it is quite rare, you would need to farm a lot to acquire it. To harvest flax flowers, stand near the bush and hold F. Once you have gathered enough, you can check your inventory to know how many you have on you. You can then use it for crafting, or store it for later.
