The Path of Riddles is a main story quest in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred that continues after In Rathma’s Footsteps. In this quest, you’ll explore different areas of Skovos, solve a series of riddles, and interact with braziers and portals to move forward. Along the way, you’ll face enemies, uncover clues, and piece together part of Lilith’s Blade. In this guide, we will tell you how to complete The Path of Riddles in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred.
The Path of Riddles Quest
Path of Riddles is the main quest story in Diablo 4. The story starts in the Fragrant Clearing location of the Skovos region. Following the completion of the quest of In Rathma’s Footsteps, you defeat the Infernal Corpse Tamer and talk with Lorath in Fragrant Clearing. Once you finish talking with Lorath, The Path of Riddles begins right away.

Following the completion of In Rathma’s Footsteps, you should follow the trail past the statue of Fragrant Clearing into The Blind Holt. Go on the trail that leads northwards. While walking further down the trail, many monsters will come near you, but you can choose to either fight them or skip them by running past them.
Solving the Riddle

Continue the journey, and after some time, you will find another statue and a path that seems to be blocked. Defeat the enemies, and interact with the statue to analyse the riddle written on it. It says, “I see all, yet knowing nothing. All of Sanctuary is beneath me. What am I?”

To solve the first riddle, you need to interact with the brazier that lies to the south of your location and ignite it. It will make the path accessible for you, and you can proceed with it to reach the portal that teleports you to The Winding Woods.
Upon reaching this destination, walk towards the northeast region and find another statue there. Interact with it to get the second riddle that says, “Sometimes I am the light that casts a shadow. Sometimes I am the shadow. Which one am I really?”

To unlock the path, you must interact with the brazier that lies to the northeast of your location. Ignite it and find the portal that takes you to the Timeless Thicket.
Once in the Timeless Thicket, go north along the path until reaching the point where there is an obstacle preventing you from moving further. This time, you should not light the fire in the brazier, but rather extinguish it. Doing so will remove the barrier and open the path forward.

Go further to access Young Rathma’s Refuge. Once there, you will find some enemies located to the north, which you need to defeat in order to have access to the entrance to the dungeon. Go into the Forgotten Hideaway through that entrance.
Proceed with the walkthrough to find a fragment of Lilith’s Blade, which is located in a pylon. Next, you will need to talk to Lorath in order to continue The Path of Riddles.
Solving the Puzzle

Following your conversation with Lorath, there is still another puzzle. Around the room, there are several pedals that light nearby braziers when stepped on. To figure out the correct order, examine the inscription on the northeastern side of the room. It reads: “Power born of Hell begets Destruction.” This clue tells you the order in which the braziers must be lit. Step on the pedals in this sequence:
- Dunaxys
- Abythos
- Coruphar
After solving the puzzle by lighting the braziers in the right sequence, your quest will progress further. Now that you have cleared the barrier around the pedestal, interact with the Hilt of Lilith’s Blade and take it. Then speak to Lorath and select the dialogue choice, “We have the first piece. Neyrelle would be proud.”
Finding Hand of Akarat

Once done, exit the hideout, and you will be met by Hand of Akarat. Speak with them first, then get ready for a fight. When you reduce their health, they will transform into a Hateborn Brute, and you’ll need to defeat them again. After defeating the brute, your character will experience immense pain, and a portal will emerge.
