Echoes of the Past is one of the earliest quests you will get when you join the Crimson Fleet. While exploring The Lock, the three of you will find the Kryx’s Legacy, which was dropped by Kryx during his attempt in escaping The Lock. Since the item holds such high value, Mathis will propose that the two of you will kill Delgado and steal the legendary item. At this point, it doesn’t matter if you support Mathis’s claims or not, as he will confess that he is not strong enough to carry on with the plan. Once the three of you reach The Key, there is a choice you can make here instead.
During the debriefing with Delgado, he will ask you about Mathis’s performance and what transpired during your time in The Lock. Over here, you can choose to bad mouth Mathis or support him. If you choose to complain about Mathis, Delgado will think about your opinion. This will ultimately result in Mathis getting kicked out of the Crimson Fleet. Later on, Mathis will seek you out as revenge and attack you during a random encounter. If you instead choose to put in a good word for Mathis, you can recruit him into your crew later on.
