The main thing the players should look for during the first half of Frostpunk 2 is a location with enough fuel to maintain their city. This leads them to an old, abandoned ship in the frozen lands. Before they can set up a new home there, players have to decide what to do with the bodies of people who died and were buried near the ship with oil. They can either dig up the bodies and take the oil or leave them as they are. This guide will explain what happens if you choose to dig up the bodies or respect the dead.
Should You Respect the Bodies
The bodies buried near the ship belong to people who were part of a group called the Wanderers. You played as these people at the beginning of the game, and they come back to the Old Dreadnaught later on in Chapter 3. If you choose to leave the bodies buried, you can only build on two places where there is oil. But you can change your mind later and build on the third place. Leaving the bodies buried doesn’t just affect how much oil you can get from the ship. It also changes what happens around Week 330, when another group, known as Wanderers comes to the ship.
If you didn’t dig up the bodies of their former friends, the new Wanderers will like you and want to work with you peacefully. They will ask for less from you and will be even friendlier if you give them 25,000 stores of oil. Later on, you can find these new Wanderers in the frozen lands and visit their home. If you do, you can learn how to use oil more efficiently, which will help your city stay warm without using as much oil.
Should You Remove the Bodies
If you choose to dig up the bodies, you can build on three places where there is oil. The Wanderers will be angry and ask you for 30,000 oil within 48 weeks. If you don’t have it by the time they come back, you will need to have 12 guard squads to protect the Old Dreadnought.Even if you win the fight, the Wanderers won’t help you. You will have to attack their home to get in, and you won’t learn anything about how they use oil.
Conclusion
It’s better to leave the bodies buried. This will make it easier to deal with the Wanderers later, and you should be fine if you only manage to get two places to get oil from as long as you pick the right buildings to construct.
If you really need more oil later, you can expand the third place after you have dealt with the Wanderers. This way, you don’t have to dig up the bodies and solve all the problems that come with that.
