At the start of Chapter 2 in Frostpunk 2, you are presented with a tough choice. You can choose whether to align yourself with the Stalwarts and try fighting against the cold or join the Pilgrims and accept the cold. Yet, it is worthwhile to know what each decision means before this decision is made. The choice between the Stalwarts and Pilgrims is personal. There’s no one correct answer. You’ll have to play through it once with one option and then play the game again with the other. Each time you play, your experience will be considerably different. This guide will help you understand the consequences of your decision.
Should You Embrace the Frost
If you choose to embrace the frost with the Pilgrims, you can upgrade your generator to use any fuel. You’ll also find places with unlimited resources. However, you won’t be able to melt the deep resources near your cities. Your choice will make the Pilgrims happy but might annoy the Stalwarts a little. This choice makes it really important to produce more oil at the Old Dreadnought. It seems like a next step from what you did in Chapter 1. To sum it up, you can use Skyways in Frostpunk 2 to connect Outposts (places that produce resources) to New London. If you can connect an Outpost, you can upgrade it to a Settlement. This makes the Settlement produce more resources, but you must send some people to live there.
Should You Defeat the Frost
If you want to fight against frost with the Stalwarts, then you can make your generator use oil more efficiently, although it won’t be able to use coal and steam. You can change coal into oil, but it is hard and takes a long time to complete. You can get resources from deep deposits near your cities, but you won’t find places with unlimited resources. This choice makes it really important to produce more oil at the Old Dreadnought. It appears to be a logical step as you had done the same thing in Chapter 1.
Conclusion
Whether you want to fight the frost or just let it be depends on whether or not you want to hassle with the Settlements mechanics. If you are new to city-building and still learning how to handle your city, fighting the frost is probably easier. But, if you want to discover some newly explored places or try something new, embracing the frost may be more exciting for you. In other words, fighting the frost is usually easier than accepting it.
It also defines your relationship with the Stalwarts and the Pilgrims. If you fight the frost, then the Stalwarts will like you more, but the Pilgrims will like you less. If you embrace the frost, then the Pilgrims will like you more, but the Stalwarts will like you less.
