While exploring the Gerudo Desert in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, you might discover some hidden caves with puzzles you can solve. However, solving these puzzles might not lead to anything immediately. In the northern part of the Gerudo Desert, there’s a temple that has been swallowed by rifts. You can still explore this area as usual, but eventually, you’ll come across a tomb with two torches that aren’t lit. When you try to interact with the tomb, it displays the message “Rest in Peace, Brave Warriors” and doesn’t have any other function. This tomb is actually part of a larger quest that you’ll come across later in the game.

How to solve the Rest in Peace, Brave Warriors

The puzzle “Rest in Peace, Brave Warriors” cannot be solved the first time you find it. To complete it, you’ll need to progress through the main story of the Gerudo Desert.

During the main Gerudo Valley mission in Echoes of Wisdom, you’ll be given the task of repairing three smaller rifts in the desert. This is necessary to prove yourself to the Gerudo Chief and gain access to the main shrine. One of these rifts leads you to a cave called the Ancestor’s Cave of Rest.

How to complete Ancestor’s Cave of Rest

When you first enter the Ancestor’s Cave of Rest, you’ll encounter a Gerudo guard standing to the right. He’ll complain about not being able to light a pair of torches located beyond the rift. He believes that without the light to guide their ancestors, they can’t find peace.

Unfortunately, Zelda can’t simply jump over the purple fissure in the ground. You’ll need to find another way around. After talking to the guard, run to the left and use Zelda’s levitation ability to move the giant rock out of the way. This will reveal a door.

You’ll enter a new room filled with large rocks and tiny moles. These moles dig holes in the ground, and you can easily fall into them if you’re not careful. To relight the torches, you’ll need to use the mole echo. You can do this by throwing a bombfish echo into one of the holes to kill the moles and learn their summon. Or, you can try to hit them when they pop up for a break. Don’t forget to move the rock at the top of the room to reveal the ladder. Then, head down into the new area filled with sand.

At first, the giant blocks of grain might seem impossible to get past. But this is where the Holmill echo comes in handy. Summon one, and it will quickly dig a tunnel directly beneath where it appears. You can then jump down these holes to explore the area more easily.

There’s a treasure chest on the left side of the room. Inside, you’ll find a golden egg and some other items to collect before continuing with the main objective.

After reaching the bottom of the pit and collecting all the treasure, avoid the Ignizol and climb the red ladder to the other side of the entrance. There, you’ll find two torches. Spawn an Ignizol to light them, then talk to the spirit sitting near the burial site. They’ll thank you for bringing peace and teleport you to speak with their living comrade.

Rewards

Completing the Ancestor’s Cave of Rest puzzle doesn’t immediately reward you. You’ll need to come back later. Don’t worry if nothing happens right away. After finishing the three smaller rift missions, you’ll finally be able to access the last two Still World areas and the Gerudo Temple Ruins. This will allow you to save the area and leave the Gerudo Desert.
