Before you go ahead and change your Pokémon Tera Type, you need to find Tera Shards. You can get Tera Shards by participating in Tera Raids. You can find these raids all across the map, and you need to find Raids that are more than 3 stars to get Tera Shards. There are various Tera Shard types you can get depending on what sort of raid you are going for. If you are going for the red Tera Raids, you will receive Fire Shards. Depending on the color you see on the map, you will receive that element shards. You need 50 of any one element to change the Tera Type of one Pokémon.

Next, you need to defeat Normal Gym Leader Larry in Medali to gain access to a secret option in the restaurant there. The recommended level to beat Larry is level 36. After that, head over to the Treasure Eatery where the Gym battle took place, and talk to the chef at the counter. You will get a new option that says Change Pokémon Tera Type. If you visit the chef the first time, you will get 50 Normal Tera Shards that you can immediately use to test the system. You can always come back and hand over 50 of any Tera Type to apply it to any Pokémon.
