M4
The M4 is the best assault rifle in Modern Warfare 2 as it is easy to use and reliable with a few attachments. You can improve the recoil and gun kick of the AR, which will help you rack up killstreaks and killing sprees in no time.
Lachmann-556
The Lachmann-556 is a more accurate and precise assault rifle than the M4, but with a longer range. The Lachman-556 is known for its low recoil and increased effective range, making it a perfect choice for taking down targets from afar without resorting to a semi-automatic rifle.
Kastov-74U
The Kastov-74U is the perfect choice for players who want a mix between an assault rifle and SMG. Its lightweight frame allows great handling speeds, making it perfect for running and gunning. The Kastov-74U has some strong recoil and a lower fire rate, but in its ideal situation, it’s a tough call whether it could beat an equal-skill player using an M4.

M16
In our opinion, the M16 is the worst assault rifle in Modern Warfare 2 because it’s the only one that doesn’t have a fully automatic fire mode. The M16 can only be used in burst or single-shot mode, which makes it much less flexible than other weapons. Burst mode is inaccurate, and you need at least two bursts to kill someone, even at close range. We found that the M16 worked best in single-shot mode, but if you’re already using a semi-automatic weapon, a DMR or battle rifle is clearly stronger.
