At the start of the Legacy of the Forge DLC in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Henry must gain the Blacksmiths’ Guild. It is a two-part initiation: a theoretical one where he responds to three questions, and a practical one where he crafts a longsword to guild specifications. It is a combination of memory, skill, and caution— but if you’re well-prepared, you can ride through it.
Do You Need the Blacksmith’s Handbook?

Master Bushek will sell Henry a Blacksmith’s Handbook before the trial for 100 Groschen. It has helpful notes with red underlining of important phrases, and it’s a good warm-up if you like to go in cold. That being said, the book isn’t really needed—the questions are all in terms of things Henry already learned from Blacksmith Radovan earlier in the game.
If Groschen is tight, skip the book. If not, it’s worth buying just for the flavor and immersion.
All Guild Trial Questions and Answers

During the trial, Henry faces three random questions from a larger pool. You’ll have only a short time to answer, so knowing them in advance is key.
- Are sparks while forging a good or bad sign?
Answer: It depends. Sparks are fine when swinging on the anvil, but not fine when burning up in the forge.
- What is the color of a well-heated workpiece?
Answer: Straw yellow. If it turns red, return it to the forge.
- Why do blacksmiths whistle while working?
Answer: To keep rhythm. One for quick swings, the other for slow heavy ones.
- What’s the final thing you do after completing a piece?
Answer: Quenching. The piece is quenched after being reheated briefly to finish it.
- How can you tell you’ve made progress with your workpiece?
Answer: By the shape. Henry will say so if he’s halfway done or done something wrong.
Having all three proper lessens the importance of the practical trial. Getting the quiz wrong means the guild will still permit you to try, but they’ll want perfect results.
Passing the Practical Test

After the Q&A, Henry is presented with a blueprint of a Blacksmiths’ Guild longsword and materials. With the guild’s watchful eyes on him, he has to forge a Gold quality blade to really impress them.
Keep in mind these points:
- Heat the blade evenly until straw yellow.
- Strike at a rhythmic pace, turn the sword to strike both sides equally.
- Quench at the appropriate stage to set progress.
Good Craftsmanship skill and good Blacksmith perks will assist. If the resulting sword doesn’t cut it—i.e., is only Bronze quality—you can try again later for 200 Groschen. Fortunately, the questions are not repeated, but the forging process only.
Rewards for Success
If Henry makes the sword assembly to guild standards, he’s accepted into the Blacksmiths’ Guild as a member. This not only justifies his skill but also earns him a forge of his own, an opening of his new career as a master smith in Bohemia.
