There are a few more uses for Silver Coins besides being used as currency. If you find a merchant, you can sell your silver coins to get gold coins in return. Usually the ratio for converting silver to gold is 5:1, but it can change in later updates. Besides getting gold coins, you can also turn silver coins into silver powder and silver ingots.
You can then take silver powder and silver ingots to the weaponsmith to craft silver weapons. You have to complete the weaponsmith’s questline first before they will start crafting new weapons for you. Besides the above two tips, the only other things you can do with Silver Coins is to sell it or stock up. Who knows if Silver Coins can come into importance in a later update
