Eikthyr is the first boss in Valheim 1.0 and has 500 HP. To defeat him, you must find his Mystical Altar, bring two Deer Trophies there, and make the offering. The simplest weapon to defeat him from a distance is a Crude Bow, although a melee fight is also an option.

How To Find Eikthyr’s Altar

Eikthyr’s altar is located in the Meadows. To pinpoint it on your map, first use the Eikthyr Vegvisir at the starting Sacrificial Stones. This marks the nearest Mystical Altar on your map. There are several Eikthyr altars located throughout the Meadows. However, it is much easier to find one using the Vegvisir.

How To Get Deer Trophies

To summon Eikthyr, getting 2 Deer Trophies is necessary. There’s a chance of collecting the trophies while hunting deer found in the Meadows. You would have to hunt multiple deer to collect the two trophies needed, as they do not drop from every deer.

To simplify the process, consider sneaking while hunting; press the Control key to achieve this. You can also use a Crude Bow and arrows, which can be unlocked by killing boars and are useful for hunting deer from a distance.

How To Summon Eikthyr

Place both Deer Trophies on your hotbar and head towards the Mystical Altar. When you reach the altar, select the Deer Trophy from its slot on the hotbar, and offer it to the altar. Do the same with the other trophy. When both trophies have been offered, Eikthyr will be summoned, and the boss fight will begin.

Best Preparation For Eikthyr

It is advised to use a Crude Bow and Wood Arrows for long-range attacks against Eikthyr. Ensure that the bow is pulled completely back before letting go of the arrow for maximum damage.

For short range, it is recommended to use a Flint Axe and Wood Shield. The shield will block Eikthyr’s attacks, and the Wood Shield can be used in parrying attacks.

Wearing a full set of Leather Armor will ensure added protection. Consumption of foods like Cooked Deer Meat, Cooked Boar Meat, and Grilled Neck Tail provides health and stamina buffs.

How To Defeat Eikthyr

The bow is the easiest approach from the supplied strategy. Keep your distance, dodge his attacks, and fire fully charged arrows. Eikthyr’s slow turning after attacks also gives you an opportunity to attack from his side or behind. Eikthyr has three main attacks:

  • Melee Attack: Eikthyr uses his antlers when you’re nearby. Block, parry, or move away.
  • Lightning Strike: He fires a lightning attack in a straight line. Step or dodge to the side.
  • Electric Slam: He slams his front legs down and creates a large electric explosion. Move away from the affected area.

If you prefer melee, a Flint Axe and shield can be used instead. Parrying can create an opportunity to deal increased damage, but mistiming the parry can leave you vulnerable.

Multiplayer Strategy

In multiplayer, players can split into frontline and backline roles. Frontline players can use melee weapons and shields, while backline players attack with bows and arrows from a safer distance.

Eikthyr’s Rewards

Defeating Eikthyr gives you:

  • Eikthyr Trophy x1
  • Hard Antlers x3

The Hard Antlers can be used to craft the Antler Pickaxe, allowing you to progress toward mining copper and tin. You can also summon Eikthyr again by collecting another two Deer Trophies.

How To Unlock Eikthyr’s Forsaken Power

You need to take the Trophy of Eikthyr to the Sacrificial Stones and hang it with Eikthyr’s corresponding stone. After it’s activated, it will grant you the Forsaken Power of Eikthyr.

This power will decrease your stamina use in running and jumping by up to 60% for 5 minutes with a cooldown time of 20 minutes.
