The best way to avoid spoilage is to craft the Ice Cellar. This is a late game equipment that can be unlocked after reaching Awareness Strength 40. If you haven’t reached this far into the game, then your only hope of preserving your food is by cooking it or drying it out. Cooking any meat on the bonfire or cooking station will help prolong its lifespan by a bit.
You can also craft a Drying Rack station after reaching Awareness Strength 18 and learning how to dry meat. Jerkies take longer to decay so you can store this food for a longer time. As soon as you are done cooking food, give them to your Tribesmen so they don’t go to waste. In case the food does get spoilt, you will receive Carrion.
