You can find hares, foxes, and deer wandering around in the foliage, but it is best to hunt animals smaller than you. You can easily outrun hares and foxes, so you should focus on finding them first. You can spot them easier if you change the foliage setting to low.
Once you spot the animal, equip the wooden yari and sprint after them. You can catch up to them this way, then toss your stick to kill the animal. After that, use the knife to skin the animal and collect meat and fur. You need three pieces of meat to complete the quest, so run around and kill animals till you get the required meat amount.
