The only way you can get Golden Apples is by defeating Eris. She is one of the bosses of the surface and resides in the Rift of Thessaly. Once you clear the Rift of Thessaly, you will encounter her as the final boss of the area. Defeat her to get the Golden Apple as a drop. You won’t miss the area, as it is part of the main gameplay. You will find the Rift of Thessaly while heading over to Olympus.
If you haven’t unlocked the surface yet, you can do so by using the Permeation of Witching Wards Incantation. This unlocks the stairway to the surface, but to survive out there you need the Unravelling a Fateful Boon incantation. Once prepared, you can tackle all the surface bosses and farm for loot. As for using Golden Apples, they are mainly used in recipes for Alchemy, so keep them with you whenever you get Golden Apples.
