Preparation to Get Followers

Before you start your hunt to get followers, you need to do a bit of preparation. You need to craft some Simple Jammers first, and you can craft them from the Tech tree. You would need some Iron Ingots, Tape, and Ether shards to craft Simple Jammers. Craft a handful of these, as you need it to subdue the follower. Next, you also need to collect some simple food. Food like cooked meat, berries, and mushrooms are needed to feed the follower when you first meet them.

Finding Followers

Now that you are prepared, you can start finding followers. Followers are found in enemy territories, and there are plenty of enemy bases scattered around the map. Find the ones that are weaker and easy to infiltrate. Equip your best weapons and gear and make your way to the enemy base. You can then either kill every enemy on the base except one, or try to lure one of them away from the others. Then shoot at them to reduce their health to less than half. A broken chain icon will appear above them when they are on low health, which means you can enslave them.

Turning Enemies into Followers

Once the chain icon appears over the enemy’s head, toss a Simple Jammer at them. They will quickly fall to the ground. If you hover your mouse over them, you will find the Obedience and Chaos bars. You should not how much percentage each of these bars have. If the follower has high obedience, then they are likely to follow your orders. If their Chaos bar reaches zero, they will come out of their trance and try to attack you again. If that happens, quickly toss the Simple Jammer again to subdue them.

How to Get 100% Obedience

To get 100% Obedience, you need to feed the fallen enemy their favorite food. Press and hold the F key when you are near them to bring up the inventory. On the top right side of the screen you will find three icons. If you hover over them, you will find the middle icon says Favorite Food. It will give you icons on all the food the follower would like. If you have that food item in your inventory, drag and drop it to the slots on the right side. Keep feeding the follower food till their Obedience reaches 100%.

In between, you need to subdue them with Simple Jammers before you can feed them again, especially when their Chaos meter is zero. So toss the jammer, and keep feeding till the Obedience meter goes up. Once it is 100%, hold the interact button on the follower to get the Subdue option. You can now take them to your base and use them for tasks.

How to Assign Followers to Tasks

Once the follower is back at your base, hold the interact button again to get a new option called Recall Follower. This will add the follower to your inventory. Now all that is left is to head over to any of your workbenches and hold the interact button. On the top right corner, a new bar will appear in the menu. In the new Follower bar, you can place any follower that you currently own.

Drag the follower from your inventory and place them in the Followers bar. They will now be assigned to do tasks in that particular workbench. You can remove and reassign them to another workbench by removing them from the Follower bar and adding them back to inventory. Then, go to another workbench and repeat the process.
