The earliest way to get cotton is to visit the Barbarian Barracks or the Barbarian Camp that belongs to the Flint tribe. You can locate it northwest of your spawn area. If you haven’t unlocked this portion of the map yet, you have to get rid of the Fog of War. Southwest of the barbarian barracks you are trying to infiltrate is the Western Barbarian Scout. You have to locate the Scout within the camp and kill any other enemies. Then, reduce the health but not kill the Scout to get an option to Deter Scout. That way you can unlock more of the map and get rid of the Fog of War

Now that you can check out the two camp locations, make your way over there and defeat the enemies. Check around for a farm or gardening area, then investigate the plants here. You might spot cotton growing on the plots, but if not then you should pass some time and revisit the plot. Cotton grows at a fairly quick rate, so just by loitering around you can speed up the growth process and collect cotton. While harvesting cotton, you can also get cotton seeds at the same time, which you can then take to your farming area and grow them
