The easiest and earliest way to get a cooking pot is by scavenging abandoned houses. Head into smaller homes rather than buildings and apartments, as your encounter with zombies will be minimized this way. Once you are inside, check the kitchen, counters, and cabinets to get a cooking pot. You might have to scavenge several homes, as getting a cooking pot this way depends on luck. Another way to get a cooking pot is to purchase it from a trader. While not all vendors sell a cooking pot, you might have a better chance of getting one this way.
Also, while completing certain tasks for them such as fetch missions or clearing zombie missions, you have a chance to scavenge for resources at the mission location. Instead of starting the mission first, head over to the mission location and kill the zombies and raid the base. After that, activate the mission beacon and everything will respawn.
