There are tons of new changes that took place in the current version of Dark and Darker. One of the massive changes to take place is the way extraction is performed. Each map now offers a unique extraction type. Instead of trying to locate randomly spawned portals, you can also use the below four methods to escape
- Stairs
- Rope
- Elevator
- Raft
Of course, you still got your portals, which also works differently now. Most of the static extraction points are marked on the map with new blue icons. We will explain how each one works below
- Stairs: This is a one time use exit point for solo players. Only one person can use it at a time and it spawns randomly around the map. Stairs can be found in Goblin Caves and Ice Cavern. Sometimes it will be locked behind a gate, so you have to wait for the gate to open to use it. Can be found mid to late game
- Rope: Another single use item for solo players. They are also marked on the map and spawn randomly around. While climbing the rope, you are not immune to damage. Ropes are found in Goblin Caves and the frost regions of the map and spawns towards the end of the match
- Elevator: These are group escape points and are mostly found in the central or top portion of the map. They are reusable exit points, but enemies can use them too. Ice Caverns and the Goblin Caves have elevators, but in Ice Cavern you can only use the elevator once in a match. It also needs to be activated by finding a lever
- Raft: This is another group escape point that spawns very early in the game. Check your map to locate waterways that contain rafts and hop on them. There is limited capacity, so if you are unable to fit in one raft, you have to wait a while for the raft to respawn. Rafts are only found in Ice Cave
- Portals: While exploring a map, check the ground for a circular blueish stone marker. Towards the end of the match, make your way over to these stone circles and wait for the portal to appear. They spawn randomly and are not marked on the map, so you have to stay extra vigilant to locate them. Portals can be found on all maps.
Now that you have learnt how to escape, what if you want to venture deeper. To head deeper into the Inferno or Icy Abyss levels, there are special entry points for this too. To reach Inferno, check your map to locate a stair icon painted red. This will lead you to the Inferno level, and it unlocks towards the end of the match. The stairs can be used indefinitely by many players. To escape the Inferno map, locate portals
For entering the Ice Abyss, make your way to the central black hole within the Icy Cave. You can check your map to locate the large black mass in the center of the arena. Wait for a few minutes after your match is done, the hole will give off a reddish hue, symbolizing that it is open and you can hop through. Once you are in, you can leave the map using ropes or portals.
