With Fontaine’s release in Version 4.0 of Genshin Impact, we finally get underwater or aquatic exploration and we couldn’t be more happier because the developers have nailed it. From the ambience and visuals to the combat- everything’s perfect. Underwater exploration doesn’t feel like a pressure as there’s no oxygen meter limiting the players so players can fully immerse themselves in the aquatic world of Fontaine which is really the point. But to say everything’s easy and hunky-dory would be a grave mistake.
While some of the puzzles are surely interesting and challenging, to say the least, when talking about difficult things underwater, some players have been unfortunate enough to face certain enemies called the Fairy Knights and the Iron Viscount. Both of these are specially mutated underwater creatures that seemingly take little to no damage even when using Xenochromatic abilities. But it’s not because they are nigh impossible to defeat- it’s just that there’s a trick to them and that’s what we’ll explain today.
Defeating The Fairy Knights and The Iron Viscount in Genshin Impact 4.0
These could be called the high-tier elites of underwater enemies and defeating them is all about dodging, timing and using the right Xenochromatic ability.
The Fairy Knights
The Fairy Knights are specially mutated Hunter’s Rays that fight in pairs and have a glowing texture to them similar to the Xenochromatic Hunter’s Ray. They seemingly take little to no damage and the trick to defeating them is by dodging their twin water blades and waiting for them to charge up their combo slash. When they are preparing for the combo, a bluish vine will be formed between them with a glowing spot in the centre.
You’re supposed to aim at that spot and launch your own water blade to cut off that illusionary blue vine. This works similarly to the Fontemer Vines that seal treasure underwater- since they too have a glowing weak spot. Once you aim and strike this glowing blue weak spot, both the Fairy Knights will take a large chunk of damage. You’ll need to repeat this process at least 4-5 times to defeat them. It goes without saying that you’ll need the ability of the Xenochromatic Hunter’s Ray to fight them.
The Iron Viscount
Similar to the Fairy Knights, the Iron Viscount is a mutated Armored Crab that not only takes little damage but can also heal itself back up. To defeat this creature, you’ll need the ability of the Xenochromatic Armored Crab. This fight is all about getting your timing right.
You’ll have to use the crab’s ability like Beidou or Yun Jin’s E-skill counter. Hold and aim the skill at the Iron Viscount and release the skill button the moment his attack is about to hit you. This will counter his attack and deal a large chunk of damage in return. Repeat the same process 3-4 times until he’s dead.
These enemies exist to test and refine your combat proficiency underwater so movement, dodging, timing and skill all play important roles in defeating them. And it’s a fair battle because the underwater terrain barely has challenging opponents like the overworld which has many difficult elite enemies.
