The earliest type of meat you can get is from fish. You can place fish nets around water bodies to capture them. You can craft fish nets in the tech menu after you have done enough research. With the right materials, you can get and use the nets. After you have captured some fish, you need to cook it over a bonfire. You can craft a bonfire from the tech menu as well. After you have crafted and placed the bonfire, you need to collect wood to start a fire.
Next, interact with the bonfire to get a new menu. On the left side you will find the consume bar and the inventory bar. In the consume bar place the wood pile, and in the inventory bar place the meat. Click on the activate button that is between them, then go to the left side of the screen. Select the recipe, then wait for the meat to finish cooking. You can now consume the cooked meat from your inventory to restore fullness.
