Fire Mage in Gothic 1 Remake is the best choice that you can make if you prefer to use magic rather than fighting with swords and bows. Although this option is much better compared to the one in the original game, there are several necessary conditions that you have to fulfil in order to be able to become a Fire Mage. In this guide, we will tell you how to prepare your character, unlock the Fire Mage initiation, complete the Trial of Fire, and deal with a common bug that can appear during the final ceremony.
How to Become a Fire Mage
The easiest way to become a Fire Mage is to join the Old Camp first and become a Shadow. First, join the camp, then go see Thorus at the marketplace at noon. Hand him your letter, and he will give you a quest which requires you to collect two Wolf Claws and one scroll.
Once you’ve completed the Orc Cemetery during Chapter 3, you’re finally ready to begin the initiation.
- Talk to Thorus.
- He will give you an opportunity to become a Guard. You should refuse this offer and ask him to make you a Fire Mage.
- Enter the monastery and talk to Corristo. He will decline your proposal initially.
- Exit the building and talk to Milten. He will give you a book on the history of Fire Mages.
- Take the book into your inventory and read it.
Milten might not give the book to you because of the bug. In case of that, just walk into the monastery, pick up the book from the pedestal at the rear and exit the building.
Pass Corristo’s Questions
Go back to Corristo after finishing the book. Request him to allow you to take the Trial of Fire. He will ask you two questions.
- For the first question, select the last dialogue choice.
- For the second question, select the one which refers to willpower.
Correct answers allow you to start the test. Corristo will give you two scrolls to pray at two holy sites.
First Shrine – Hidden Waterfall
Head towards the river which lies between the Old Camp and the Old Mine. Diving into the river, you should follow it until you reach a hidden temple behind a waterfall, then use a prayer scroll to open it.
Second Shrine – Cliffside Brazier
Afterwards, make your way to the Swamp Camp where you will find a Fire Lizard. Prepare yourself for combat. After lighting the brazier, make your way back to Corristo.
There is one bug that some players may experience at the end of the ceremony. When the other Fire Mages ask you to go upstairs after speaking with Corristo, they will turn hostile to you because the game thinks you’re trespassing. Speak with Corristo to obtain your Fire Mage robe.
