Gran/Djeeta

The somewhat main protagonists of GFVsR, picking Gran or Djeeta is your first step to learning how to control all subsequent characters. It also helps that they have two of the main Shoto moves. You can learn how to play with Djeeta’s Fireball or Gran’s Invincible Uppercut. Their Reekas also offer a more beginner friendly approach, since even if you use block, you can still use an offensive stance later on. If you prefer a more offensive approach, the Djeeta can help you with that, while Gran is more balanced in his playstyle.

Katalina

For a more defense based playstyle, you can’t go wrong with Katalina. She offers ranged attacks and also has a weapon and shield. She is also probably the best shoto archetype available for beginners. Her  hit-confirming mechanic can help you learn to place combos after you notice a confirmed enemy hit. If Katalina is hit instead, her shield will protect and start an automatic timer. Choosing Katalina will help you master the game’s mechanics with ease

Anila

Another interesting ranged fighter, Anila can use her many sheep-related projectiles to hit enemies from afar. Her attacks are mostly normal, making her a balanced fighter. Her anti-airs is something that is worth learning in her skillset, as well as learning how to balance pressure using her hop skill. This not just works against enemies, but also favors Anila. If you really enjoy projectile style fighting with long range attacks, the Anila might be the one for you.

Soriz

This tanky character is known for their brute force attacks as well as high defense. If you don’t want to worry too much about timing and precision, then using Soriz in a fight will make things easier for you. His attack and defense buffs can make him a tanky fighter who loves to push their opponents to their deaths. Even his blocks won’t give him much negatives, so this character is a must have to a complete offensive playthrough
