As a Necromancer, you will have access to certain spells as you make progress in the game. To get the Golem, you need to progress through the campaign till you reach level 25. This will unlock a priority quest called Necromancer: Call of the Underworld. Accept the quest to make it show up on the map. After that, follow the pointers and complete the quest line to obtain the Golem ability.
To equip the Golem in your spell slot, press S to bring up the Skill Assignment menu. Scroll down the menu till you find the Golem ability, then drag and drop it into the skill bar. There are three Golem types you can summon after you upgrade them in the Book of the Dead. They can also be sacrificed in the Book to give you certain boosts like increased speed or health. The Golem will be active by your side as soon as you equip it, and if it dies it will automatically respawn after a while.
