To find the Proto Armourworm, you need to first find and defeat the Elder Armourworm boss. You can find this boss in Webbed Hollow, Chapter 4. First, travel to Verdure Bridge shrine and go around it on the left side. You will find a wooden plank bridge to cross and some lanterns at a distance. Once you go too close to the lanterns, a short cutscene will occur. Collect your treasures from the secret room and keep going further in. You will find the Elder Armourworm boss here. You can quickly defeat it with Immobilize, Pluck of Many, and Red Tide
Collect the Proto Armourworm drop and make your way to Webbed Hollow > Middle Hollow. Once here, search the area for Rice Cocoons. They are large white sacs without arms that stand on the ground, and they might shake when you get close to them. Hit them and you can collect Rice Cocoons. Now, you have to go to Zodiac Village. You can get here if you have completed Chen Loong’s questline. Go to Zodiac Village > Village Entrance. Hand over the Proto Armourworm and feed it Rice Cocoon 3 times. You will get the Elder Armourworm Spirit.
