The Pals that function as mounts are referred to as Mount Pals. To use them effectively, you will need to make the corresponding Pal Gear first. Depending on the Pal you have, they will allow you to travel by land, sky, or water smoothly. The latest version of Palworld 1.0 has introduced many features that improve the mounted travel system, such as more efficient use of stamina, movement bonuses which depend on what kind of Pals are present in the party, and smoother flying movements. In other words, which Pals serve you best will also depend on how advanced you are in the game.
Best Early Game Mounts

Flying Mount – Beakon
This mount excels as an early flying mount when using Electric Pals. Beakon’s saddle is available quite early in the game and when combined with a four-star rank and several Electric Pals, it provides a sprint speed of 2,400.
Being a poorer performer with regard to acceleration compared to Jetragon, this mount performs really well when it comes to moving long distances early in the game.
Ground Mount – Rayhound
In version 1.0, Rayhound is among the most recommended early ground mounts, for it benefits greatly from increased movement speed due to the newly introduced party speed mechanics when in an Electric party. Furthermore, Rayhound still possesses a double jump feature making it easier for the player to explore and avoid attacks.
Water Mount – Surfent
Surfent is a Water-type Pal that excels as an early-game water mount thanks to its Swift Swimmer Partner Skill, which lets you travel across water without consuming stamina. It also offers Level 2 Watering for base work and learns strong Water attacks like Hydro Laser, making it useful for both exploration and combat.

Best Mid Game Mounts

Ground Mount – Starryon Primo
Starryon Primo is one of the most powerful Neutral Pal, as seen in the version 1.0 of Palworld. Different from the normal Starryon version of this mount, it relies on having Neutral Pals in your party instead of nighttime bonuses to increase its speed. It also has a strong acceleration that can be considered decent for traveling in larger locations.
Water Mount – Jormuntide
Jormuntide is a powerful Water/Dragon-type Pal with high combat stats and Level 4 Watering for base work. Its Stormbringer Sea Dragon Partner Skill lets you ride across water without consuming stamina, while powerful attacks like Hydro Laser, Dragon Meteor, and Slither Slam make it an excellent endgame Pal.
Flying Mount – Helzypher
Helzephyr is a Dark-type Pal that serves as a fast flying mount with the Wings of Death Partner Skill, adding Dark damage to your attacks while mounted. Its powerful moves, including Dark Laser and Dark Whisp, along with Level 3 Transporting, make it a great choice for combat and base work.
Best Late Game Mounts

Flying Mount – Jetragon/ Eidrolon Ignis
If you optimize Eidrolon Ignis well enough, it can become one of the fastest flying mounts in the game. The speed of the mount is improved with the number of Fire or Dragon Pals present in the party.
Eidrolon Ignis that can achieve four-star rating has a small edge over Jetragon, while providing a little bit more stamina as well. However, to maximize Eidrolon Ignis’s speed, you will have to have Fire or Dragon Pals in your party.
Due to its great performance without the need for a specialized party composition, Jetragon is still among the most dependable flying mount in the end game. It can now sustain a long sprint thanks to the changes to stamina in patch 1.0, thus eliminating the need to pay much attention to managing stamina while exploring.
Ground Mount – Necromus
Necromus ranks among the finest late-game land mount because it does not rely on party composition. At four stars, it earns extra riding speed without sacrificing its unique jumping ability. Players searching for a simple yet effective land mount will discover that they can count on Necromus in any situation.
Water Mount – Ghangler and Ghangler Ignis
Ghangler and Ghangler Ignis are almost undoubtedly the best water mounts right now. Their speed now increases according to your party and that makes them very fast swimming mounts. Even though they lack the jumping ability Neptilius has, they compensate for that with their ability to swim at high speeds.
Mount Changes in Palworld 1.0
Version 1.0 has gone through some modifications that are relevant for virtually every mount in the game.
Stamina usage has been consistently lowered, which means that flying and ground mounts can dash for much longer than they did before. The flying mechanics in the game and the way mounts fly have also changed. Some flying creatures now tilt while flying and then hover, which is different compared to constant wing flapping prior to the update.
Some pre-Sakurajima update mounts now have 100 extra sprinting speed if they happen to be Alpha Pals, whether this applies to you will depend on the specific mount. Beakon benefits from this bonus, while Jetragon and Hydron do not. If you’re using any of the original mounts it would be better to obtain an Alpha version of it whenever possible.
Recommended Passive Skill Build for Mounts
Most of the top-performing mounts use the same passive skill setup. Dimensional Leap has effectively replaced Nimble as the preferred movement speed passive in version 1.0. A recommended build consists of:
- Dimensional Leap
- Swift
- Runner
- Legend
Because stamina consumption has been reduced significantly, stamina-focused passives such as Eternal Engine are no longer considered necessary for general exploration.
Which Mount Should You Use?
What type of mount is best for you will indeed depend on both your build and your team. If you are going for a specialized build, you will find mounts such as the Eidrolon Ignis, Rayhound, Story Primo, Beakon, and Ghangler useful. If however, you would prefer a more flexible setup, then Jetragon and Necromus will be your preferred choices as they have fantastic capabilities without relying on specific teammates.
