It may be hard to pick your first Aniimo, as there are two great choices to start with: Helion and Lunara. These characters have a lot in common but differ a lot when it comes to battle style. Lunara uses ranged attacks powered by magic, while Helion goes for fast and powerful close-range battles. This guide explains the main differences between Helion and Lunara to help you pick the one that suits your playstyle.

Pick Helion or Lunara

At the beginning of the game, players have two choices: Lunara and Helion. It looks like the characters are very similar, as they have the same statistics, elements, roles, exploration skills, and are very cute.

Lunara is the character representing Moon and Wisdom, and she is focused on wisdom, peacefulness, and harmony. Helion is the Sun character, and his attribute is Might, and he focuses on courage and fearless hopes. Here are some of the main differences between the two.

The Aniimos have nearly the same set of skills to offer. They both have the DPS skill, a damage boost, an energy regain skill, and the Break damage skill. Only two skills are allowed per character at a given time; therefore, picking the right combination of skills is crucial.

Their Ultimates are quite similar in that they inflict serious damage, change their forms to the evolved forms, and grant them increased damage for the duration of the battle.

Some other abilities that they share include self-healing and crowd control. Their first Passive Trait is the same as well, where the damage they inflict on all elements is boosted by 20%.

How Lunara Plays

The trait of Lunara grants her four stacks of the Silver Moon Mark each time she uses either Skill or Ultimate abilities. Basic attacks from Lunara will reduce the stacks and cause additional damage, as well as healing some of her HP.

It creates a slower approach for her character since the player can cast one Skill, do a couple of basic attacks, and cast another Skill and so on. Being a ranged attacker, the player can attack enemies from a distance using their healing power.

Her Core Ability, Moon Impact, becomes stronger with upgrades. It attracts enemies to the centre, thus hitting several of them in a single hit. Together with her Ultimate ability, Lunara will be able to inflict massive AoE damage.

Lunara as a DPS and Support

The effect of the second Skill that she has, called Lumin Bolts, lowers the resistance of the enemies to the Light Type Attacks. It works great with Moon Impact since more damage will be done by enemies due to the increased Light damage.

She also gets some sort of support capabilities from this Skill since not only does Lunara deal more damage, but it also increases the damage of other Aniimos of the Light Type attacking the same enemy.

It can work great for Aniimos like Prismana Fulmintis and also for other players’ Light Type Aniimos when playing in co-op mode. Ranged attacks of Lunara are also an advantage against flying enemies, and her magical damage works better against low-magic-defence enemies like Bouldus and Minespine.

Nevertheless, enemies with great magical defences, like Tuckin and Panpanta, will be able to lower her damage output. Another Skill she has is energy recovery and a Skill dedicated to break damage. Nonetheless, one can only have two Skills equipped, and the combination of Lumin Bolts and Moon Impact is so good that I saw no need to use the others.

It should be kept in mind that these Skills can still be modified before the release of the game. Overall, Lunara will most probably continue to be a ranged hero who will kite enemies and deal AoE damage.

How Helion Plays

Helion’s approach, on the other hand, is very aggressive indeed. Skills like Light Bombardment, Holy Roar, and Holy Storm already indicate how Helion plays the game. He gains one stack of Solar Halo for every four basic attacks through his Trait. The consumption of one stack of Solar Halo enhances his Skills.

All Skills of Helion can be enhanced through Solar Halo, although it works best on his Core Skill, Light Bombardment. Light Bombardment with Solar Halo enhancement increases its damage by 30% and allows healing to Helion’s HP. There is a 75% chance that Solar Halo won’t be consumed in this Skill.

This means that you will be able to use an improved Light Bombardment again without executing four basic attacks again. The healing ability is very essential since Helion must attack enemies up close. While Lunara will be able to keep her distance from the enemy, Helion will have to go right up to them and attack. The ability improves Light Bombardment by healing 4% of Helion’s HP when he uses it.

Lunara vs Helion

The selection of either Lunara or Helion depends entirely on the kind of fights one prefers.

  • Lunara specialises in ranged fights, sustained damage, kiting, and area of effect. This character is able to keep a safe distance and attack enemy groups with constant damage. One more benefit of Lunara as a character is that she can serve as a support character in the game due to the ability to reduce the Light Type Resistance, which helps do extra damage to other Light Type Aniimos.
  • Helion, on the other hand, is much more aggressive. The aim is to attack enemies with burst damage up close. This Aniimo has the upgraded version of the Light Bombardment Skill. It can automatically attack enemies, evade some attacks during the skill animation, regenerate HP, and deliver massive damage.

One more thing to be aware of is that they will not remain evolved forever in this beta. Rather, they only evolve temporarily whenever they use their Ultimates in battle and revert back to their regular form afterwards.

Finally, both the starters have great and effective play styles. If you like to fight from afar and control groups of enemies, Lunara could be your starter of choice. On the other hand, if you prefer to go into a melee battle, then Helion is for you.
