The Attack on Titan crossover in Assassin’s Creed Shadows adds a short but full story arc featuring new missions, cosmetics, and a Titan-related mystery tied to an Isu artefact. The game isn’t very clear on where to begin, so this walkthrough covers how to start the event and how to complete every quest: Beyond the Walls, Descent, and The World Outside.

This limited-time collab is only available until December 22, and you will need to have Yasuke unlocked to play it.

How to Start the Attack on Titan Questline

First, find the “Beyond the Walls” quest marker in the northern centre of Yamashiro, right along the road leading to Omi.

The quickest way there is to fast-travel to Hanazono Castle, then ride northeast.

You’ll know you’re in the right place when you come across the corpses of dead Survey Corps soldiers, soldiers from the Scout Regiment, as known by Attack on Titan fans. Reading the letter beside them reveals they’ve been tracking a defector by the name of Gautwin, a Titan-Shifter who was tricked into fleeing Paradis.

The trail sends you back toward Hanazono Castle, where the collaboration storyline officially begins.

Beyond the Walls – Walkthrough

As you arrive, the castle is under assault by the Elitrasi Fanatics under the command of Lord Albrecht. He has dragged Gautwin into the caverns below.

Storming the Castle

You can use either character, but Yasuke is the better choice here. The castle is full of armoured enemies – including two Samurai Daisho – and Yasuke’s raw strength makes the encounter far easier.

Naoe can sneak through, but early-game, she’s too fragile for large crowds.

If you haven’t cleared the castle before, use Yasuke to defeat the Daisho so you can open the red chest near the hostage, containing:

Protector’s Helmet (Legendary)

Liberate the surviving Scout, Ada, who explains that Gautwin was manipulated by Albrecht and Ritter. To do this, the quest switches you over to Naoe, who must infiltrate the caverns stealthily and create a route for Yasuke and Ada.

Completing this area concludes Beyond the Walls and grants 1000 XP.

The next mission, Descent, begins immediately.

Descent – Walkthrough

Entering the Cavern

Once Naoe enters the tunnel:

  • Go prone and crawl through the gap on the left.
  • Open the chest at the end for a Training Corps Emblem Banner.
  • Throw a shuriken at the explosive barrels to open a path for Yasuke and Ada.

Backtrack, climb through the newly opened stone gap, and follow the path to find hardening crystals—those Naoe can cut through easily.

Exploring the Cavern

  • In the large open room with grapple points, drop down to grab the Military Police Banner chest.
  • Get to the next area by using the stepping stones and crystal climbs.
  • Crawl through the low opening, destroying another explosive barrel in your way.
  • Slip under the floorboards during the cutscene with Albrecht and Ritter.

Continue until you reach a small cliff with a chest tucked below it; climb down the crystals to grab the Garrison Banner.

Before the Final Area

Slide down the slope and, with the camera, manage to spot another explosive barrel through a tight crack—easy to miss. Hit it with a shuriken to open the next route.

Loot the Death Note next to a body, replenish your tools, and climb the crystals back up to the room where you found the Garrison Banner. Grapple forward using the grapple point.

Take out two enemies with quick stealth kills, crawl through the wall crack, and you’ll enter the final chamber.

Reaching Gautwin

The whole of this section is a set-piece run through the giant crystal cavern, swinging between grapple points, climbing wooden structures, and clearing small groups of fanatics.

There are plenty of supply boxes, so never worry about running out of tools.

Optional: How to Get Eren Jaeger Crystal Statue

Don’t release Gautwin yet. After the triple grapple swing, you will end up on a wooden plank that overlooks a pile of hay and where you can see Gautwin, about 85–90 meters ahead.

Before approaching him:

  • Do a Leap of Faith into the hay.
  • Explore the lower area made up of crystal platforms.
  • Climb the crystal wall that has three wooden planks beside it.
  • Restock tools, then swing to the area with Lord Ritter and several fanatics.
  • Defeating them will grant you a chest containing the Eren Jaeger Titan Crystal Statue for your hideout.
  • A zipline afterwards brings you back onto the main route.

Albrecht Boss Fight

Climb back up toward Gautwin. Once you’re at the old wooden platform, get ready for the final fight. A double grapple swing lands you on Gautwin’s platform—be careful not to overshoot.

Yasuke and Ada join you as Lord Albrecht attacks.

Tips:

  • First, clear his minions; dealing with them and Albrecht at once is messy.
  • Many of his blows are easy to parry.
  • Use an arquebus to knock chunks off his armour.
  • Dodge his red attacks: They’re unparryable.

Titan-Albrecht Chase Sequence

  • When defeated, Albrecht takes a Titan form. You cannot fight him-your only task is to flee.
  • Run through the caverns, using every traversal skill you’ve learned.
  • Switch to Yasuke when the path is obstructed by crystal walls-he can break them down.

Once Yasuke breaks through the final crystal barrier, Descent ends, and the last mission, The World Outside, starts.

The World Outside – Final Choice

Back outside, you have to decide whether Gautwin should: Return home and fulfil his oath, or run away with Ada and spend the rest of his days elsewhere.

Encouraging Gautwin to go home is the stronger choice narratively, lining up with everything he’s gone through and Yasuke’s advice. Gautwin even admits that he’s tired of running, and Ada’s closing dialogue supports this path.

Here’s a small cameo reference: Ada quotes Armin Arlert (“A person who can’t sacrifice anything will never change anything”), from Season 1 Episode 5 of Attack on Titan. The mission concludes with a final “dedicate your heart” salute.

Final Rewards

Completing The World Outside grants:

  • 3000 XP Cavern Shard (Legendary katana for Naoe)
  • Reactive Shell engraving
  • The Cavern Shard gives Naoe a crystalline hardened-Titan appearance on her arm, torso, and hair. This effect is cosmetic.
