One of the diplomatic paths you may take in order to improve your relationship with Voada upon completion of The Roots of Our Ancestors is The Lost Cohort. Unlike earlier quests, this one relies very strongly on your choices, and knowing how to make those choices ahead of time helps you avoid wasting Denarii or making certain people angry.

Starting the Search

Your quest starts by visiting the lighthouse of Athr Iorgwyn. After having a conversation with him, he will challenge your motive. When “Answer Athr’s Question” comes up, choosing honour is the smarter response. He opens up right away and shares what he knows about the missing cohort.
Admit you’re after the reward, however, and Athr completely shuts down. You can only get him to talk by handing over 15,000 Denarii, which is pretty steep for the same information.

Finding the Island

With this lead in hand, pin the quest and hit the Locate button to reveal the island on the far eastern edge of the map. Load a land unit onto a ship and sail there. Upon landing, send your troops toward the highlighted area to investigate.
You’ll encounter an alderman who’ll tell you that some horses have gone missing.
Just scan the island and interact with five horses to try to help him out. Then, head through the narrow gorge that the quest marker will lead you through. The deeper you get, the clearer it will be that this alderman isn’t what he seems-the “missing horses” were just a ruse, and you’ve found the lost cohort.

Deciding Their Fate

Here the story diverges: you can either have the deserters executed or keep their secret. The two options affect Voada differently and can result in a small skirmish depending on your choice.
Choice Outcomes
| Decision | What Happens | Voada’s Reaction |
| Death to the deserters! | Two mobs are attacking your troops, and you can either fight or run away, but either way the deserters will die. | You lose points of reputation. If you flee, Voada mocks you on top of that. |
| Keep their secret | You let the deserters go free and avoid conflicts. | +80 reputation with Voada. |
If you are trying to stay on Voada’s good side, protecting the deserters is the clearly better path. If you’d rather uphold Roman discipline-or just want the fight-you can choose the execution route, but expect the relationship hit.
