The first time you will be introduced to the concept of using Tar is during Chapter 4. While trying to escape the rat swarm and make it past the infestation, you will need to mix alcohol with resin to create tar. You can get both these ingredients by raiding chests across the lands. Once you have resin and alcohol, just fuze them together and get Tar.

Tar has a variety of uses. If tossed on its own, it will create a sticky surface that is difficult to get past once trapped in it. This is a great tactic to use on enemies who are fast and likely to catch you. You can also throw tar at them and use the Ignifer to set them on fire. You can also use it the other way around, by first setting them on fire and then using tar to bring out a blinding light. This is enough to scare away rats for a while, but all the above effects are temporary. To use Tar, equip your sling and use the Tar to aim and toss it at your target.
