The Crystallize reaction offers a strategic advantage by allowing players to mitigate incoming damage from specific elemental attacks, adapt to different enemy types, and enhance survivability during combat. That said, in reality, Crystallize is far less attractive due to its several flaws and inability to live up to its core function of damage mitigation and interruption resistance. Recent leaks about Fontaine however have some interesting things to say about it and we could soon be getting a massive buff or rework of Crsytallize along with a new character.
How Fontaine Could Save Crystallize in Genshin Impact
Leaks about a character centred around the Crystallize and a buff or a rework to Crystallize have been floating around the community for a while but it would seem like they’re getting more traction as Fontaine approaches.
Specifically, a character called Yuelyn who will have a tall female body type, and is perhaps from Fontaine or Liyue, will be the saviour of Crystallize. She will be a 5-star Geo unit and supposedly with her release the whole Crystallize reaction could be getting a buff or a rework to suit her kit better.
Yuelyn’s Kit Leaks in Genshin Impact
Her role in the Geo roster will be similar to that of Nilou– as in what she was to the Bloom reaction, the same will be true for her when it comes to Crystallize.
As for her role in a team comp, she’s meant to be a solo-Geo unit like Albedo but she can also be used in Mono-Geo teams. Her elemental skill does an explosive slash that deals AoE Geo damage. It has an additional special effect which gives some sort of buff to any Crystallize shards created within a certain amount of time after the slash. These buffs could be contained in the Crystallize shards themselves or be given to the active character or Yuelyn herself.
Her charged attack is also said to have a significant stun effect on enemies. This could be similar to Jean’s charged attack sometimes being capable of rendering enemies helpless in mid-air as they float slowly down.
Her elemental burst creates a large field similar to Nahida’s burst and it gives buffs to your characters. All Crystallize shards created within the field are special as they can explode in an AoE- giving nearby party members shields and dealing elemental DMG to nearby enemies. These shields will supposedly deal the elemental damage of their own elements- as in Crystallize shields of the Pyro element will explode and deal Pyro DMG to enemies and so on.
Similar rumours were also popular before Kirara’s release and theorycrafters now suspect that these rumours were regarding another future character and not Kirara. If Yuelyn’s kit is as stated above, she will either have a DEF scaling or an EM one depending on how she is designed. The strength of her shields could scale either on DEF or EM since the strength of Crystallize shields depends on EM and character level but also Geo characters mostly scale on DEF.
Another source claims that she could also be getting a form of Geo infusion- similar to Noelle’s elemental burst. There are also other leaks that say Yuelyn could very well be another Hydro unit. As is custom to mention- all of the above leaks are still very early and thus highly STC (Subject to Change) so take them with a giant grain of salt.
