In order to start extracting large quantities of oil in The Last Caretaker, you have to unlock Project Jonah first. This is a massive mechanical whale, which will dive into the depths of the sea, pick up oil, and bring back the cargo for your extraction. In this guide, we’ll tell you how to unlock Jonah, activate the whale, charge it with power, and collect thousands of litres of oil with every dive.

How to Unlock Jonah

The first step is to create a human in your Human Creation facility. In this case, there is no need to create a perfect human because it will be used solely for starting Jonah. It is necessary just to meet the required stats listed on the screen. Make sure that your character meets the required Weight, Height, and Life Expectancy. You can utilize any foods that improve these stats till you meet all the required ones. Once the creation process is complete, pick up the human and carry them with you.

Going to Shark Pen

Travel to the Omega Platform, which is identified by the shark logo. Once you get close to the platform, two new objectives will automatically appear. Ensure that the Shark Pens facility has power. If it doesn’t have power, restore the power first so that the doors can be opened. Go to the largest tank known as Pen 4. Use the ladder at Pen 4 to go down to the basement level and proceed until you get to the Jonah Control Chamber.

Activating Jonah

Inside the system, you will find an explanation saying that the system requires the signal of a living human. Take the human to the biological socket in the corner of the room and insert them there.

Once the human is plugged in, press the switch near them. It will start playing a short sequence that will confirm that the signal entered the water and Project Jonah was activated. Additionally, you will find out that Jonah is an enormous whale-machine created for the purpose of oil extraction from the seabed.

Get out of the control room and go back outside. If it’s daylight, you will see Jonah swimming nearby. Board your boat and sail over to it. That is everything you have to do to unlock Jonah. Once Jonah is unlocked, you will be able to use it for oil collection from the seabed. Don’t forget that Jonah must be charged to start working.

How to Climb Jonah

Bring your vessel next to the whale and go to its right side where the boarding stairs are situated. This will help you get onto the whale easily. To dock more easily, you should use a Mooring Cable Landing Spot on the whale and secure it with your mooring cable to the whale. After securing it, you will have to let out the anchor, and the cable will gently pull your boat into position beside Jonah.

How to Charge Jonah

Jonah will not start collecting oil unless there is sufficient energy stored inside it. You will notice two connectors on the back of the whale. One connector accepts electrical energy, and the other one is used for retrieving the collected oil. Connect the power system of your boat to Jonah using the cable. The whale uses its internal battery to store electricity, and about 30 kWh will be needed before it starts a dive. This means that more than one fully-charged battery or even some extra source of energy is needed. A Portable Generator is a great option because it runs on petrol and continuously supplies electricity while you wait.

How to Collect Oil

However, before you activate Jonah by pressing the dive button, make sure that your boat is completely detached from Jonah. Disconnect the mooring and power cables to prevent Jonah from pulling your boat under the water during its dive.

Next, press the activation button, and watch how Jonah dives into the ocean water, collects oil from the bottom, and re-emerges from the water after one or two minutes. Once Jonah appears above the water, approach it and dock your boat to it. At this point, you should have 10,000 litres of oil stored in its output tank. You just need to attach a fluid hose between Jonah and your storage tank.

After collecting the oil from Jonah, it is recommended to disconnect the power input of Jonah as well. This will help prevent Jonah from starting another dive immediately if you visit it without detaching the power input the next time.
