By beating Gomez and Scar during Chapter 2, you will have access to high-level weapons, armor, and keys that you would normally have to wait until much later on in the game to acquire. Why Defeat Gomez and Scar Early?
You can get powerful late-game items at a low level by beating Gomez and Scar in Chapter 2. Make sure to save before you try either fight because they each have an attack that will instantly kill you under certain conditions. If you’re going to use this strategy, it is recommended to wait until all the NPCs have headed to sleep (around 12:00 AM).
How to Defeat Gomez
Take a moment and allow Gomez to walk towards the entrance of his room, making sure he stands away from other NPCs. When you know Gomez is all alone, walk up behind him and keep hitting him repeatedly so that he stays under pressure the whole time. If by chance you don’t win the fight against him, reload your save to start over from where you were before fighting him.
Once you have taken out Gomez, pick up his loot and save your game before continuing. You will be rewarded with Gomez’s Key, which opens the chest in his room and gives you access to the Ancient Ore Armor; you will also receive Innos’ Rage and some other great loot. Once you sleep in your resting area, Gomez will reappear at his original location as if nothing had ever happened.
How to Defeat Scar
Make sure to save before you fight Scar. You can draw him away from nearby NPCs before initiating combat by walking towards the stairs. Then use your melee attacks to keep the pressure on Scar at all times as to avoid giving him the opportunity to perform his one-shot attack. If you are not able to keep him under pressure, you might be forced to reload your save because Scar’s one-shot attack is very powerful.
Once Scar’s life is below half, it is recommended that you begin blocking more frequently depending on your attacks. It is critical to block throughout this section of the battle for preventing damage from his deadly attacks.
