In Gothic 1 Remake, you’ll need to complete the Recovering the Free Mine quest alongside Gorn. While the objective is pretty straightforward, the amount of enemies lurking in the mine can be difficult to deal with. In this guide, we’ve outlined everything you need to know for completing the quest as efficiently as possible, so read along!
How to Start the Quest
You’ll need to start by going to the entrance of the Free Mine and team up with Gorn for the quest. You’ll find him with the other mercenaries who’ll be getting ready to take back the mine from Gomez. Ask them about how they’re planning to take back the mine with just four mercs. Gorn will explain how the others are covering their back and how it’ll be easier with four people. He’ll then tell you about Lee who has asked you to lead the charge, and with this, the Recovering the Free Mine quest will be initiated.
Agree to helping Gorn and he’ll give you the keys that’ll help you open the gatehouse in front of the mine.
Opening the Gatehouse Inside the Free Mine
Next, you’ll need to start your journey and go towards the mine with Gorn and the mercenaries. The mercs will stand guard while you and Gorn go down to investigate further. Remember, as you enter the mine, follow the path on the left and stick to it until you come across the gatehouse in front of which you’ll find a sort of campfire.
You’ll find some guards in front of the gatehouse. Keep your distance from them and shoot arrows to take them down. Once all the guards are down, you can loot their body for rewards, and then make your way to the gatehouse.
You’ll find a door on the left of the gatehouse which leads to a small room. Use the key Gorn gave you earlier to open the door and inside you’ll find a wheel. Turn the wheel and the gate will open.
Making Your Way Through the Mine and Taking Control
Now, go inside the mine with Gorn beside you and keep to the left. Turn right when you come across a lit torch and some draped clothes and then turn left again. You’ll eventually reach a bridge which you’ll need to cross but remember, you’ll have to take care of the guards present there. Once you and Gorn have cleared the area, take the right path, and you’ll come across another bridge.
You’ll find more enemies in the area, kill them, loot their bodies for rewards, and then go down using the ladder. Take the path on the right and keep going further down the mine. You can choose to kill the guards lurking there with your bow and arrow to gain experience and loot.
Once the area is clear, go right, and further into the mine. Kill all the enemies in this area and then go upwards using the slope on the right. Take another right to go further up and check the area to see if there are any more of the guards left. Once everything is clear, the mine will be yours. Finally, engage in dialogue with Gorn to complete the quest and receive +1000 Experience.
