In Gothic 1 Remake, the Scar’s Sword is one of the best weapons to get early on in the game. However, this weapon also requires an investment in Strength for effective usage. Despite this, Scar’s Sword is still worth going for based on its high damage output. This guide will explain how to get to Scar, beat him, and acquire his sword and crossbow.

Gain Access to the Inner Old Camp

The best one-handed sword in the game is Scar’s Sword which deals 85 Damage and has a Strength requirement of 70 to use it, meaning you will most likely need to reach level 7 or 8 before being able to effectively equip and use it.

To receive this weapon you need to gain access to the inner area of the Old Camp. You will only be able to enter this area if you finish the Outer Ring quest that requires you to deliver a letter to the Fire Mages.

Isolate and Defeat Scar

When you enter the castle in Old Town, you’ll need to go to the throne room to search for Scar. He is usually surrounded by other NPCs; if you visit him around midnight, he will either be alone or you’ll need to wait for the area to clear out. NPC behavior depends on the time of day, so it may take some time or a little bit of conversation from your end before you find Scar by himself.

You will want to create a save before beginning your fight with Scar. He is a very powerful opponent, and even the smallest mistake can cause you to be defeated by him. Your primary goal during this fight is to defeat Scar before he alerts the nearby guards about your presence. If you are having a difficult time defeating Scar, you can always use the Acrobatics skill to make the fight easier.

Scar’s Sword and Crossbow Rewards

After defeating Scar, he will drop both his sword and crossbow which are the best one-handed sword and crossbow available in the game. Additionally, if you return later, Scar will not seem to recall the attack, allowing you to continue playing with both weapons without any consequences.
