Octopath Traveler 0 has a massive amount of Hidden Characters hidden across Osterra. There are 35 usable characters waiting to be recruited, and a couple of additional allies for specific moments within the storyline. A couple of characters will be missing if you enter at the wrong points within specific chapters and quests, so it might be necessary to travel back.
This walkthrough will concentrate on which areas and under what conditions they should be recruited.

Early and automatic recruits
These characters are assigned either to you by your story or appear within the early chapters.
- Stia (Architect) – will be added automatically with the intro quest Flames of Restoration.
- Bargello (Lord) – introduced early on in the main storyline at Bestower of All Chapter 1.
- Richard King – Recruited automatically at the end of Bestower of All Chapter 1.
- Rondo and Tatloch – appear after Bestower of All Chapter 4.
- Eltrix and Solon – Both appear after completing Chapter 5 of Bestower of All.
- Alaune (Queen) – Recruited automatically at the end of Bestower of All Chapter 3.
Wishvale and Kindlers of the Flame links
Several of these recruits are involved with either the rebuilding of Wishvale or the Kindler storyline. You should work on these quests.
- Phenn(Hunter) – Find Phenn(Hunter) at Snowshard Grotto. Chapter 1 – Kindlers of the Flame. Invite Phenn(Hunter) to Wishvale.
- Celsus (Thief) – shows up at Valore’s tavern after completing Chapter 1. Bump up enough reputation and vice rank, and he will join.
- Tressa (Merchant) – recruitable at Rippletide, Kindlers of the Flame Chapter 2; complete her personal quest.
- Macy (Apothecary) – appears at Emberglow after Chapter 3 of Kindlers of the Flame; aid her with a healing mission.
- Pius(Cleric) meets with you as a result of Kindler’s Chapter 3 quests at Cragspear, then returns with Pius to Wishvale and visits your mother’s tomb.
- Ludo (Merchant) – can be found at Sunshade after Kindlers Chapter 3, fulfil his request.
- Laurana (Cleric) – Recruited in Kindlers of the Flame Chapter 4. Earned by defeating the Emerald Direwolf.

Master of Wealth, Fame, Power and associated recruits
These characters will be unlocked as you progress through their stories. Herminia and fellow prominent antagonists are not conscripts. Rather, note these allies:
- Esperre (Merchant) – Sufraltajah Sands Chapter 3, Bestower of Wealth. Fulfil his request.
- Reime (Warrior) – appears at Victor’s Hollow after Chapter 2 in Bestower of Wealth; recruited after winning an arena match.
- H’aanit (Hunter) – obtained at Victor’s Hollow, chapter 2, Bestower of Wealth.
- Alexia / Scholar, who will appear at Theatropolis Library in Chapter 2 of Master of Fame – You will need either Entreat or Letter Fragment.
- Saoirse (Dancer) — shows up at Theatropolis Theatre after winning against Auguste at Master of Fame Chapter 3, and you have to practice an accompanying dance and make refined choices.
- Cyrus (Scholar) – obtained from Atlasdam Flats while completing Bestower of Fame Chapter 3.
- Delitia (Hunter) — can be recruited at Chapter 2 – Master of Power; defeated her in a strength contest and then took up her side quest.
- Viator (Warrior) – associated with the Crested Key. If you have chosen Crested Key at the start, he will appear at the Valore Inn as soon as the Bard event occurs.

Other Recruiting Sources
These characters are present in towns or unlocked after completing certain side quests.
- Goodwin(Dancer) – can be found on Shipwreck Island; recruitment requires possession of recipe Dish Ratatouille.
- Ophilia (Cleric) – Appears at Flamesgrace after completing Chapter 2 – Bestower of Power.
- Xerc (Scholar) — recruitable after defeating an Immortal Noble in Grandport.
- Heidne (Thief) — unlocked in Wishvale at the end of Bestower of All.
- Therion(Thief) — met at Cragspear during Master of All Chapter 3; complete his task.
- Primrose (Dancer) – Found in Sunshade during Master of All Chapter 3. You have to finish her quest.
- Alfyn(Druggist)—recruit him by completing a personal quest, which appears near the Path to Waterpool Caves.
Late game and Bestower of All recruits
Completing the final arcs will reward you with several important names.
- Olberic (Warrior) – Recruit at Shepherd’s Rock as a reward for completing the Bestower of All questline
- Carinda (Merchant) – appears in Donescu and joined the Bestower of All.
- Isla (Cait Scholar) – on the Isle of Sages, after Master of All; you have to gather 5 Letter Fragments. These Letter Fragments are either chosen as part of character customisation or belong to Alexia.

Story-linked Mass Recruits and Special Cases
Characters will sometimes appear automatically or as a result of significant storytelling moments.
A few nobles and rulers, as pointed out above, appear as a result of the main story chapter progress. These include the monarchs, queens, and nobles who appear after major chapters involving the Bestower.
Temporary recruits and cameo allies
These assist with particular chapters but are not permanent party members.
- Schwartz temporarily becomes a back-line character in Chapters 2 and 3 of Master of Fame.
- Sazantoz – temporary ally, TRIAL OF THE RING FINAL BATTLE.
- Elrica – shows up briefly after Chapter 1 of Master of All.
