It won’t be easy to find a decent source of fuel in the game. You may have to wait months to get ready enough to explore the snowy lands around your city. First, you need to make sure your city is strong and stable, with enough districts to take care of everyone’s needs. Once you’ve got that, you can start looking for a source of fuel that’s better than coal.
Where to Find Permanent Source of Fuel
To get fuel from outside the city in Frostpunk 2, you have to build a Logistics District on an Old Waystation. This is located at the edge of the city’s playable area. In the first chapter, there are two Old Waystations. One is southeast of the city center, and the other is on the icy coast to the north.
The fuel you’re looking for is in the Desolate Coast region, west of the city. There, you’ll find an Old Dreadnought (you might remember it from the beginning). It has oil that can help New London last much longer than coal. This is the permanent fuel source you need to finish this chapter and keep playing Frostpunk 2.
To get enough people to reach the oil at the Old Dreadnought, you need to build two Logistics Districts. You’ll have to break through the ice to reach both Old Waystations and build the necessary upgrades. You also need to explore the Frozen Bay region next to the city to connect the Old Dreadnought colony back to New London. So, plan accordingly.
How to get Oil from Dreadnought
Now that we’ve built a colony for collecting oil at Old Dreadnought, we need to make a path from there to New London. Look at the whole Frostland map. Then, click the trail icon in the bottom left corner to start building a road.
Trails are like roads, but they need different things to build depending on how long and tricky they are. So, try to make the path from Old Dreadnought to New London as short as possible. You can only build trails in places you’ve already looked at, so explore the areas around New London first. This will help you make a continuous road all the way from the oil colony back to the city.
If you’ve already staked out outposts and trails elsewhere, you don’t need a new trail for Old Dreadnought. You can connect Old Dreadnought to those existing trails. Now, the oil will flow to New London without any problem. As long as you have a trail connecting one point on the map to another, you’re good.To make more stuff move faster, you can study Skyways. These are like upgraded trails.
How to transfer Oil to New London
Now that you have the trails set up, you can start sending oil from Old Dreadnought to New London. This will finish the Black Gold quest. To move oil and other stuff between your colonies, click on a colony’s picture in the top right corner and choose ‘resource transfer.
When you click ‘resource transfer,’ you’ll see a menu with sliders. These sliders let you choose how much of each resource a colony sends to other places. There’s a lot of oil at Old Dreadnought, but if you need more than 75 oil total, you can make people work extra shifts at your oil gathering places. A little extra work never hurts anybody.
As you play Frostpunk 2, things keep going smoothly from one part to the next. But don’t forget about your people while you’re trying to finish your tasks. If you let your people go hungry while you focus on getting oil at Old Dreadnought, you’ll have a lot of angry people when the next part starts. If you have some time left at the end of a part, improve your buildings and make sure everything is okay before moving on.
