Throughout your journey in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, you’ll encounter a number of NPCs with personal stories that gradually unfold through optional questlines. One such character is Qiao Ying, an elderly woman who mistakes Wuchang for her long-lost son.

You encounter her towards the beginning of the game inside Shu Sanctum, and she will later request you to fetch a White Jade Dumpling, which is said to cure her. It is not an easy feat to obtain, as it involves battling a tough boss by the name of Lu Hongliu.

Encountering Qiao Ying inside Shu Sanctum

You’ll be able to find Qiao Ying waiting in front of God Shu’s statue on the second floor of Shu Sanctum. As you get close, she stands to welcome you and starts a warm conversation, talking about her son. If you already got the Peachwood Amulet from her son in the Revenant Temple, you can now present it to her to initiate the beginning of her personal quest.

She informs Wuchang of a monstrous creature by the name of Lu Hongliu, who was a human but is now a changed being. Convinced that Wuchang is her child, she implores you to go and bring her the White Jade Dumpling—a precious artifact reputed to cure even the most serious wounds and ailments. The next is to search for the monster who possesses it.

Reaching Lu Hongliu and Retrieving the Dumpling

If you’ve already unlocked the shortcut near the Shu Sanctum by knocking down the tree connecting the mountain path to the second floor, getting to Lu Hongliu will be significantly faster. If not, the journey begins from inside Shu Sanctum. Start by heading downstairs and exiting the building through the right-side corridor. You’ll arrive at a row of houses, where a ladder on the right allows access to the rooftops.

Climb up and navigate across the roofs to proceed towards your objective. The route ahead is inhabited by enemies, such as a troll enemy—kill them or run past, depending on you. You will later come across a sloping road that leads upwards. To the right is a golden gate that has an enemy with a firearm and two dogs guarding it. Kill them and proceed through this passage until you reach Worship’s Rise.

Here, move through another row of buildings and tread carefully around a rolling boulder by stepping momentarily outside and back in. Past the troll enemy in front, a wooden plank to the right will take you up to a roof. Climb higher through it using a ladder. Keep moving on the rooftops, eliminating any foes encountered, until you come out at a large courtyard below.

Descend into the courtyard and deal with a Fire Dancer enemy. Once defeated, you’ll see two paths: one crossing a wooden bridge and the other winding through more houses. Take the second path. Eventually, you’ll find a large staircase leading to a door. Open it to trigger the boss fight with Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu.

Defeating Lu Hongliu and Completing Qiao Ying’s Quest

The fight against Lu Hongliu is fierce. The beast charges quickly on all fours, dashing forward with claw attacks and little windup. To win, get close and sidestep to the left and right, opening up time to launch counterattacks. Managing your cool and endurance is crucial here.

After defeating the beastly Lu Hongliu, you’ll be rewarded with the White Jade Dumpling. Go back to Qiao Ying in the Shu Sanctum and talk to her. When you give her the Dumpling, her lucidity starts to come back, and she finally knows that Wuchang is not her son. Thankful still, she rewards you with a Faint Red Feather and three Divination Crescents. This is the end of her questline for the Shu Sanctum area.
