The Cave of Desperation is the third dungeon in Throne and Liberty, and it can be quite tough. Its tricky mechanics and heavy AoE damage can pose a real challenge for unprepared teams. In this guide, we’ll go over everything you need to know to defeat Ant Queen Lacune in the Cave of Desperation Dungeon or Lamenting Underground as the quest objective suggests.
How to Start the Fight with Boss Lacune
To start the fight with Boss Lucan in the Cave of Desperation, players need to first defeat the Mutant Princess Ant (First Boss), then fight Mutant Giant Acid Ant (Second Boss) and reach the Lacune (Final Boss). Before you take on Lacune, you’ll need to destroy three eggs located on different platforms in the arena. Pay attention to these platforms, as they’ll be important later on. Once you’ve taken out the three Gem Ant Eggs, the boss fight will begin.
Mechanics to Beat Lacune
Players should keep an eye out for the following mechanics that will occur during the fight:
- Lacune will have an indicator resembling a ‘Rage Meter,’ shown as a purple bar beneath its health. Once this bar is full, it will unleash a series of furious swipes targeting the player dealing the most damage. Players should do their best to avoid these attacks at all costs.
- Lacune will hit the ground hard, sending players flying. If you don’t switch to your Gliding form, you’ll take fall damage.
- Periodically, ants that can paralyze and poison players will appear in the arena. All available damage dealers should take them out as soon as they show up to prevent a wipe.
- Lacune will shout and start charging a deadly red AoE attack. Red circles will appear on the ground at the same time. Make sure to stand on one of these circles, as pillars will lift players above ground level and boost their damage. If you can’t reach the pillars and are near some platforms, climb up there instead. Staying on the ground will lead to death.
- After the Red Pillars collapse, Lacune will summon three Gem Ants that will attack players on sight. It’s important for nearby players to quickly take them down before they target the Healer or draw the Tank’s attention away.
- When Lacune’s health drops below 50%, it will start infecting players with ticking time bomb larvae, just like in the fight against the Mutant Princess Ant. Players can remove these larvae by getting close to another player.
Tips to Defeat Boss Lacune
Here’s the best strategy to fight boss Lacune. Keep these tips in mind as they’ll help you save time
- Concentrate on dealing damage, keep an eye out for the Red Pillars, and climb on top when the AoE attack begins. If you can’t find a pillar or platform to stand on, it could be game over, so be alert for when the boss roars and starts charging the deadly AoE. When the Gem Ants appear, take them down as quickly as you can.
- Grab the boss’s attention and keep blocking while facing the team. Instead of positioning the boss in the center, lean it slightly toward one of the pillars. This gives melee DPS a bit more time to get on top of the pillars and avoid the deadly AoE attack.
- Do your best to off-tank any threats that might distract the Tank. Avoid the Gem Ants on the platforms and focus on taking down the Paralyzing Ants instead, allowing the Range DPS to handle the other adds.
- Prioritize healing the Tank and try to keep the Melee DPS above 50% health whenever possible. Your role is critical, as your death will likely lead to a wipe for the team. Stay close to a Melee DPS and near a Red Pillar spawning zone or platform to ensure you can survive the deadly AoE attack.
