If you’re jumping into The Midnight Walk, you already have its dreamlike settings, spooky soundscapes, and surreal storytelling. Created with VR in mind, this adventure tale integrates exploration, subtle puzzles, and heart-based storytelling into an immersive and enigmatic experience. But whichever you’re deeply invested in with a VR headset or playing off a good ol’ fashioned screen, the game has a lot to keep you going, and the occasional puzzles to break you if you’re not paying close attention.
You’ll stumble across one such instance during Chapter 2, called The Tale of the Loathsome Molgirm, where you’ll have to face the Moonbird Story Puzzle. This is an enigmatic puzzle filled with a weird sequence of cryptic murals, conversing to a bird and a matchbox. You need to complete this puzzle in order to reach the next chapter of the story.
Location of the Puzzle in The Midnight Walk Chapter 2
After completing the second flight sequence, you will be somewhere else. Move in a forward direction, and when you are close to a distant tree, the world around you will be instantly darkened. The Moonbird will be seen sitting on a branch, opening up the story puzzle.
How to Solve the Puzzle in The Midnight Walk Chapter 2
The Moonbird challenges you to light five murals in the correct sequence in order to rebuild a narrative. Behind you is a matchbox; take a matchstick to light. Murals to light in order:
- Second mural from the left: Two Molgrims enjoying a campfire supper.
- Second mural from the right: The Somebodies battling the Molgrims.
- Mural furthest to the right: The Somebodies are engaging in combat with each other.
- Centre mural: Shows the Great Gruesome Beheading, with several on the right.
- Far-left mural: Shows heads terrorised by the old Molgrim.
If lit in this manner, the order of these murals will make the Moonbird tell the whole tale, culminating in a payoff—a Shard of the Moon. The item is utilised to craft the cauldron needed to advance the game further.
Tips for Success
- Peek and See: Every mural features distinctive imagery that implies where it belongs in the narrative.
- Harness VR Features: When playing VR, utilise the experience to analyse murals close-up.
- Pay Attention to the Moonbird: Its clues may provide subtle guidance on the appropriate order.
Solving the puzzle continues to build on the story and improve your understanding of the game’s lore. This is a testament to how well The Midnight Walk balances storytelling and interactive entertainment.
