The Red Death and the sinister Wyrdness have left Avalon a realm of turmoil. Civilisation is crumbling, families are scattered, and survival from one day to the next takes tremendous effort. Monsters haunt the wilds, security is a thing of the past, and hope is in short supply.

As you play out Avalon in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, you’re going to meet a great deal of people trying to get the most out of a broken world—and some of them will require your help. “A Place Once Mine” is one of the softer, more emotionally resonant scenes that helps you remember why you’re persevering. Here’s where to find it, how to do it, and why you should bother.

Starting the Quest

After reaching the second area of the game, head south of Cuanacht towards the Last Tree landmark. You can find a secluded little camp within the forest.

As you enter for the first time, you’ll be stopped by two guards standing outside the entrance. If you speak with them and show your willingness to help, you’ll trigger another quest entitled “Tightening the Screws” you can do so if you prefer, but it’s not required for this one.

What you’re really here for is a conversation with Quill, a harried-looking man who sits beside the campfire. Talk to him and hear his tale—a tale all too common in Avalon today. He’s a labourer attempting to stay afloat, but his circumstances have caused acrimony between him and his wife. He’ll have you deliver a message to her by the time he’s done speaking to you.

Your next stop is Quill’s home, located northeast of the city of Cuanacht. Ride or walk there, taking care to watch out for peril along the way.

Once you arrive at the door, knock first. His wife will open cautiously, and it is essential that you inform her that you are a person sent on behalf of Quill. If you make a mistake or are suspicious, she may deny you entry. Once inside, you can question her further about their situation, or simply cut to the chase and relay the message—that Quill wants her to get his pay from Sine.

She listens to it with resigned dignity, clearly bruised but not surprised. She thanks you after a pause for being the bearer of tidings and says a few final things about how hard everything is.
