After getting the probe control unit, you can talk to Director Patel and she will give you a choice. You can choose to either save the universe that Patel is in, or save the one where Rafael is in. You don’t have to make your choice right now, as you can work on it while you make your way to the lab. Once you exit Nishina Research Lab, you can talk to Rafael and Patel one last time. Now you have a choice to make.
Disengage the Power Interlocks in the Alternate Universe (Ruins)
If you choose to disengage the interlocks in the ruins, then you can save Rafael while leaving everyone else to their deaths. Later on, you can recruit Rafael into your party.
Switch Universe and Disengage the Power Interlocks in the Station
You will save everyone except Rafael. For your choice, you will be rewarded with the experimental Nishina Helmet and Spacesuit gear. You will also get 11800 Credits.
Can you save both universes?
There is a way to possibly save both universes. To do that, you need to first find Rafael’s body in the normal universe. You will find his body in the control room. Check his corpse to find a text log about the Probe Calibration Protocol. After reading the text, head over to the lab computer then initiate the degaussing technique. You need to switch the interlocks on and off to deguass and repeat the process in the alternate universe as well.
After that, you should check the frequency calibration. For the alternate universe, it is 24GHz, while it is 40GHZ in the normal universe. You can now activate the Primary Calibration Control in both universes to stabilize them, thus saving both universes.
