The Custodian is an NPC who stays in N’Erud, and you can get here by visiting the Ascension Spire waypoint in the Phantom Wasteland. He will offer you a quest, and completing it will make him more friendly. He will then ask you to retrieve the Shining Essence Echo after slaying Tal Ratha. He needs this special item to save N’Erud and the Drzyr. Once you get the item, you can hand it over, or keep it to yourself.

Give the Custodian the Shining Essence Echo

If you hand over the Essence to The Custodian, you will receive a Siphon Heart relic. This grants Lifesteal for 10 seconds, dealing 10% of base damage. Besides that, you will continue to gain access to N’Erud, which is extremely valuable if you haven’t explored it 100%. You can find the Engineer archetype here, so if you haven’t picked it up yet, you can do so.

Keep the Shining Essence Echo

If you plan on keeping it, you will be locked out of visiting N’Erud later on. But you can craft the Void Idol amulet from Essence after using it in the Drzyr Replicator. With the amulet, reload speed will increase by 20%, while reloading requires 50% from reserves.

Depending on where your priorities lie, you can give the essence away or keep it for yourself. If you like this Remnant 2 guide you can check out our other guides as well.
